Advent

The time of Advent is the four-week period of preparation for the season of Christmas. Advent begins the cycle of the new Liturgical Year and focuses on the coming of the Lord. The first weeks offer a vision of the future, looking to the end of time when Christ will come again. The final weeks point more specifically to the birth of Christ. Christ, the promised one, is awaited with joyful expectation. The First Sunday of Advent follows the final Sunday of Ordinary Time and the season concludes on Christmas Eve.

The First Week of Advent begins with the First Sunday of Advent. In the Sunday Gospel from Matthew, Jesus stresses to the disciples the importance of being alert at all times for the coming of the Son of Man.

Staffing 2023

As a parish school we are committed to providing innovative and contemporary learning and teaching for all students. A contemporary learning approach is personalised, responding to the learning needs, interests and experiences of each student. Contemporary learning is different to the way many parents of today’s students were taught. It offers teachers and students many more options than the old textbook driven approach to teaching. Contemporary learning aims to empower students with the knowledge, skills and capacities to respond creatively to the challenges of their world.

We are extremely proud of the emphasis that is placed on learning and the school wide structures that we are putting in place and constantly refining to promote high levels of learning across the school.

Staying true to this vision and keeping our students at the heart of everything we do enables us to make the best decisions for our school community when it comes to staffing, school priorities and school structures.

I am excited to announce our staffing for 2023. I thank all staff for their cooperation and understanding when trying to do what is best for the students at our school. I know that we have another exciting year ahead and all teachers are looking forward to new and exciting challenges.

Step Up Day days is a great introduction as to what students can expect in their next year of learning, growing and building relationships. They can ask any questions they have and it is also a chance for them to get to know their new teacher before the new school year starts.

Mission News

First Holy Communion

Last Thursday evening we concluded our 2022 Sacramental Program with 22 students receiving their First Holy Communion. It was a special evening and the students' reverence and respect were evident from the moment they walked into our Parish Church.

Our First Holy Communion is a very important sacrament every Catholic must go through. During this sacrament, it is the first time a child can partake in the Holy Eucharist, the most important part of the Holy Mass for Catholics. The First Communion is considered as one of the most important and holiest sacraments for a Catholic.

Thank you to all who assisted in the preparation and to those who supported our children on the night. Special thanks also to Father Michael Nugent who stepped in to support Father Peter in his absence.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation, commonly known as confession, or the Sacrament of Penance, is for children who are also preparing to receive their first Holy Communion.  On the Tuesday before our First Holy Communion, our children were supported in our Parish Church by Father Peter to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It was a very special liturgy and a number of students remarked about feeling lighter when they left the church. In our preparation, we spoke about how confessing our sins can make us feel at peace.

The Qualities of Mary - Year 5

At the beginning of Term 4, I asked Year 5 to help me with a task of sharing Mary's qualities with our school community during Advent. Mary is honored by us because of her steadfast faith in God. She believed – as we all want to – that God would remain with her and would never leave her. During the season of Advent, we prepare our own hearts with this same faith. This is a time for us to grow ever closer to Mary's Son, Jesus Christ.

I am so proud of the quality of these pieces and the learning that Year 5 has done this term. Thank you Year 5 and Mrs Hutley!

Sacramental Stoles/Sashes

On behalf of the children of our Parish school, I would sincerely like to thank Father Peter and the Parishioners of our Parish for organising and donating to us, a set of red stoles for the Sacrament of Confirmation and beautiful First Holy Communion sashes. They are a gift that will form a tradition in our Parish school for many years to come.

Parish News

From next weekend (December 10 - 11) our Parish will celebrate a Liturgy of the Word and Holy Communion on Saturdays at 4pm; as well as our usual Mass at 9am on Sundays.

This weekend the Parish Mass remains unchanged.

All are welcome!

Year 5 camp was an amazing experience, I had so much fun and learnt a lot. We had 5 awesome activities: crate stacking, high ropes, billy carts, giants swing and giants playground. They were all equally thrilling and so so fun, but I personally really enjoyed the high ropes. You can get up to 12 metres high in the air and you have to really balance to stay on the ropes. Don’t worry, all these activities are super safe and you don’t have to worry about getting hurt. You get a great workout from all of these activities and you’ll surprise yourself with what you can do. The camp staff were lovely and taught us all how to break our comfort zone. It was the best 3 days and 2 nights of my life and I would love to go back.

Maggie

Camp was really fun. The activities that we did pushed everyone to do their best, like going on the hard course on the High Ropes, swinging from the top of the Giant Swing, and trying tricky courses on the Giant’s Playground. We had to wash and dry our own dishes, and we were assigned duty groups to prepare and serve food, or clean up afterwards. The cabins were really cool, and it was hilarious telling each other about our friends sleepwalking and sleeptalking. It was a fun bus ride home, with a few people napping, sharing laughs, and taking picture after picture with only a few ‘are we there yet.’ The fun had to end, though. Still, like I said, camp was really fun.

The boys won all their games. With a nail-biting semi-final against Wyrallah road, they managed to progress onto the final with a 26-27 win. In the finals, they played Summerland Christian College and they won the game 17-29. It was wonderful to witness great sportsmanship from the team, but most of all it was great to see the boys having an enjoyable time playing a sport that they love.
